About me - Sra Orlando

I have been a teacher in the William Floyd School District for 14 years.  During this time I have taught various levels of French and Spanish.  My students are my number one priority and I have designed this website with the intention of ensuring their success.  I love using technology to enhance the learning experience.  I especially appreciate the manner in which the internet can bring to life the culture of the people who speak the languages we study.

So use this site as both a window into our classroom at William Floyd High School and a link to the Spanish-speaking world that we will be exploring this year.

UNITS OF STUDY - FIRST SEMESTER

Review - A brief review of some basic 8th grade topics

Unit 1 - Personal ID - Students will be able to describe themselves and others using basic adjectives.  We will cover regular verb conjugations, as well as the verbs Ser and Tener.

Unit 2 - Family Life - Students will be able to describe their families and family members.  They will also be able to discuss common holidays and celebrations.  We will continue to review verbs.

Unit 3  - House and Home - Students will be able to describe their homes, rooms in their homes and furniture.

Unit 4 - School - Students will be able to discuss their classes, teachers and school.  They will explore similarities and differences between their school and schools in Hispanic countries.  We will continue to review basic verbs as well as how to tell time.

Unit 5 - Community and Neighborhood - Students will be able to describe their communities and particular activities they do in their neighborhoods.  We will review the verb Ir and the simple future.

Unit 6 - Shopping and Clothing - Students will be able to describe clothing worn by themselves and others and how to shop for clothing in Spanish.

Unit 7 - Leisure Activities/TV and Movies - Students will be able to express what sports and other activities they enjoy doing in their free time, which movies and TV shows they like to watch.

Unit 8 - Food - Students will be able to describe what they eat during the day at various mealtimes.  They will be able to order food in a restaurant, describe a problem with their food and talk about healthy food choices.

Unit 9 -Health and Welfare - Students will be able to describe symptoms to a healthcare professional, name body parts and describe various remedies.  Students will also be able to discuss healthy lifestyles.

Unit 10 - Travel - Students will be able to describe various means of transportation, make vacation plans and describe a vacation they are taking.  

Unit 11 - Physical Environment - Students will be able to describe various characteristics of the environment.  They will be able to describe steps they can take to preserve the environment
